For 25 years I have worked at the University Childrens Hospital at Frankfurt/Main (Germany), where I was trained for Pediatrics and Neonatology to become deputy head of the neonatology department over time. My scientific area of expertise are perinatal infections, especially in the field of human Cytomegalovirus, leading to several publications in international journals on congenital as well as postnatal CMV-disease.

Since many years I have been member of the advisory board of the german initiative to inform about congenital CMV(cCMV)-infections ‘ICON’ and the parent support group ‘Stark gegen CMV’ to spread knowledge and to reduce disease burden. These were also the reasons why I joined the setup of cCMVnet (ccmvnet@gmail.com) with colleagues from all over Europe. This international network is built around a registry of children with cCMV and currently I am treasurer of the network. Our aim is to learn, as well as to educate about this most common congenital infection. We would like to support collaborations for research into prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Two years ago my clinical affiliation changed to the Main-Kinzig Kliniken at Gelnhausen (Germany), were I am meanwhile Head of Pediatrics and Neonatology – still working scientifically and clinically, in our ‘CMV-outpatient clinic’ for example, on the unsolved problems of CMV-infections.
