Dr. Daniel Blázquez Gamero

Dr. Daniel Blázquez Gamero holds a degree in Medicine Universidad Complutense of Madrid, and dis his training in Pediatrics in Hospital Clínico San Carlos. Since 2008, he has been working as Consultant in Pediatric Infectious Diseases in Hospital 12 de Octubre. In 2016, he obtained a Ph.D. in Medicine with his thesis about congenital CMV in Spain. He is an associate professor of pediatrics since 2014 and he is leading the Master’s Program in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Universidad Compluense. He is the Coordinator of the National Registry of Congenital Cytomegalovirus Infection (REDICCMV; www.cmvcongenito.com) since its creation in 2011. He has also been involved in the European registry cCMVnet, serving as a member of the Steering Committee as a “Database Officer.” His main research areas are congenital infections (mainly CMV), tuberculosis, and hospital-associated infections. He is the lcoordinator of the Translational Research Group in Pediatric Infectious Diseases (GITIP), a consolidated group within the Research Institute of the Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre. He ws the Investigator for three Health Research Projects (PI 16/00807, PI 19/01333, PI22/01540) about congenital CMV funded by the Spanish Goverment (ISCIII). He is the current coordinator of the Pediatric Research and Clinical Trials Unit (UPIC) since its creation in 2021. UPIC is currently involved in over 50 pediatric trials of all phases (I-IV), both academic and industry-sponsored.
