Despoina Gkentzi graduated from Athens Medical School in 2002, trained in Paediatrics in the United Kingdom and completed a Fellowship in Paediatric Infectious Diseases (PID) Unit at StGeorge`s Hospital in London. She completed the PID training in Greece as well as her PhD and aMaster in Public Health at Patras Medical School, Greece.

She is currently working as an Assistant Professor in Paediatrics at Patras Medical School (third largest Medical School in Greece) and as a PID Consultant at University General Hospital of Patras, where she is running the PID clinic for the last 13 years.
She has joined the ESPID Committee for Education in 2021 and her main duty is the coordination of the development of the ESPID Congenital and Perinatal Online Course. Her research interests include neonatal infections, congenital infections, antimicrobial stewardship and vaccinology.
